WE KNOW WHAT YOU NEED - WE KNOW WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS
The Physiology Department was formed with the founding of a new institute, Institute of Medicine 2, in 1963, and was one of the earliest among departments to encounter its first intake students. The departmental objectives revolve around the understanding of principles and concepts of basic and advanced Physiology, and application of that knowledge to research and clinical discipline.
Histology and Organic Chemistry were first integrated into Physiology in the second MBBS course, but it was only until 1964 and 1965 respectively, when Anatomy and Chemistry Departments took over. Separation of Biochemistry Department came late in 1987.
Altogether twenty staff currently strengthens the department, rendering teaching service to various under graduate and postgraduate courses. They include second MBBS course, MMedSc (Physiology) course, PhD (Physiology), basic science training to postgraduate courses such as MMedSc at the University of Medicine 2, FRCS and MRCOG involving all institutes.
